Richmond Institue’s First Ever Alumni Event

Richmond Institute recently hosted its first Alumni event where graduates could reconnect with one another and hear stories of where they are now post-study.

Since the Diploma of Sport/Diploma of Leadership and Management commenced in 2017, 571 students have graduated with their Swinburne of University of Technology qualifications.

The pre-game event hosted before Richmond’s Round 20 clash with the Brisbane Lions saw past students from all years come together to reminisce, network, and celebrate their achievements.

Those who attended are now working across various roles in some of Australia’s largest sporting organisations including the Richmond Football Club, Western Bulldogs, St Kilda Football Club and Melbourne Storm.

Graduate and current Richmond Institute staff member Joseph Watts attended the event, highlighting that it was a great opportunity to catch up with previous peers and meet like-minded people who all have a passion for working in the sports industry.

“Reuniting with my fellow alumni was a reminder of the fun and challenges we each encountered and endured together,” he said.

“I was able to meet graduates from previous years who have subsequently developed careers within the industry or have gone on to further education.

“It was encouraging to meet those who had completed the course before me to connect the similarities and providing clarity of the path within and beyond their Richmond Institute experience.

“I would certainly attend another alumni event.”

Michaela Langsdale, Education Manager for Pathways & Events at Richmond Institute claims that the best part of her role is seeing graduates land roles within sport.

“It’s fantastic to see so many graduates following their passions in further study options to become sports industry professionals such as Physios or Sport Scientists,” she said.

“Seeing graduates working across the industry in all disciplines of sport is amazing.

“We will look at hosting these events once a year and look forward to seeing the wide range of graduates in the future.”

After the event, graduates headed over to the MCG to see Richmond pull off a miraculous seven-point win against Brisbane.
