Richmond Institute Of Sport Leadership to open in Mildura

The Richmond Football Club will continue its push into the Sunraysia region with a new Richmond Institute of Sport Leadership campus commencing classes in Mildura next year.

Delivered in partnership by Richmond and the Swinburne University of Technology, the program offers students the unique opportunity to develop into the next generation of sports industry leaders.

After launching a Melbourne campus at the Richmond Football Club’s Swinburne Centre in 2017, the program has since expanded regionally to Albury-Wodonga and nowMildura.

The Mildura program was officially launched with a Business in Sports breakfast in Mildura last week that was attended by senior Club officials.

Upon completion of the course, students receive a Diploma of Sport Development and guaranteed entry to a Swinburne undergraduate degree.

Students are also exposed to placement and employment opportunities through the RichmondFootball Club and its fully owned subsidiary company, Aligned Leisure which currently manages Mildura’s eight aquatic facilities including Mildura WAVES.

The course is made up of two contact days a week, high performance training sessions and its four modules; Athlete Performance, Strength and Conditioning,Managing The Business and Sports Industry Leadership.

The course ambassadors include Winter Olympic Gold Medalist Lydia Lassila, World Champion Australian Diamonds Head Coach Lisa Alexander, Richmond CEO Brendon Gale, and Richmond President Peggy O’Neal.

“Mildura is already a very significant region for our Club, through our Aligned Leisure business and our Next Generation Academy,” Gale said.  

“We are looking forward to expanding our presence and to now bring more tertiary education to the area is a very exciting opportunity and we are thrilled locals will be able to benefit from a successful course with such a well-respected University like Swinburne.”  

The Richmond Institute of Sport Leadership will hold an open day in the Benetook Room at the Alfred Deakin Centre, Mildura on Tuesday, August 6.
